Alsager residents are joining together to mourn the sad news that the Queen died at Balmoral today (Thursday).

Vice-Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, Joëlle Warren, who lives in Alsager, was an avid admirer of Queen Elizabeth II.

She recognised her as a truly remarkable woman - a stateswoman with deep humility, grace, diligence and astuteness.

Joëlle, who was awarded the MBE for services to business, was honoured to be the Queen's representative in the county since 2010.

She told Alsager Nub News that she could think of no better role model for women and girls than the Queen, who has given so much to this country.

"Our Monarch was an amazing woman who has role modelled servant leadership for me, having put the needs of other people before her own, something she promised to do at the age of 21 when she said, 'I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service…'," said Joëlle.

In Alsager itself, the Queen's remarkable contribution to this country will live on forever. Alsager Community Support Centre in Lawton Road was awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.

Not only that, centre's group founder, manager and volunteer, Liz Pinkney, who set it up more than seven years ago, was also honoured with a BEM for services to the community in Alsager during Covid-19.

Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, John Dwyer issued the following statement about the Queen's death.

"I wish to pass on my deepest condolences to the Royal Family on this immensely sad day. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II reigned for 70 years as a pillar of strength and wisdom to our nation and her legacy will be felt deeply for the next 70 years and more," he said.

"Her Majesty was the one constant that remained in our nation's public life. She will forever be a shining example of public service and a figurehead for the values that unite us as a country, and I join people across Cheshire and the United Kingdom in mourning her loss."
