Alsager-based deputy leader of the Animal Welfare Party, Jane Smith, is calling on wildlife and conservation groups to take part in a peaceful demonstration with environmentalist, Chris Packham, next month.

Jane Smith who lives in Alsager, is taking part in Chris Packham's 'People's Walk for Wildlife' in London on November 26th along with members of Smallwood Toad Patrols near Sandbach.

Animal campaigners from Sandbach and Alsager will be acting as 'station buddies' to meet and greet any solo marchers travelling down from this area into Euston.

The volunteers will meet them at Euston and walk people over to the start of the march.

Smallwood Toad Patrols, who go out on patrols to protect toads near Sandbach and Alsager, will be marching in an 'amphibian bloc' alongside toad patrollers from across the UK.

Jane said: "The November march is a direct response to the government's current threat to drop crucial environmental and habitat protections, which would be disastrous for flora and fauna including here in Cheshire."

She is calling on as many wildlife and conservation groups across Cheshire and Staffordshire to participate in this peaceful and family-friendly march.

The UK Government has set out plans to amend or scrap vital environmental laws, including the Habitat Regulations which protect some of our most vulnerable wildlife and green places.

Th Government has also announced further plans to create at least 38 'Investment Zones' in England which could lead to damage to nature with little or no restrictions.

"Chris Packham's first People's Walk for Wildlife was held in September 2018 and we attended that too, marching en-masse from Hyde Park to Downing Street," said Jane.

"It was a very moving event. Chris had pre-prepared an app of endangered UK species' birdsong and at one designated point we all walked in silence but playing the app on our mobile phones – thousands of us.

"At the pre-march rally in Hyde Park, we were also treated to a bespoke set from Billy Bragg who sang about UK wildlife."
