Pork pies and a pint go hand in hand and one Alsager pub has come up with a way of finding the perfect combination.

Bosses at The Mere Inn in Crewe Road have been testing out various pork pies from around the UK as well as local suppliers to sell on the bar.

The choice has been dwindled down to the final two or three and now customers are coming together to form a 'pie panel'.

During next week, a group of customers will be tasting the three brands of pork pies and be choosing their favourite.

Licensee, Chris Charlesworth, aka Charlie, said: "We don't do food but we want to introduce pork pies to our offering.

"We put a post out on Social media asking volunteers for a Pie Panel to come forward and test out the final ones and we had great well response.

"We'll then select what comes out the best. We're delighted to be involving our customers and look forward to making the final choice."
