Alsager Nub News reader's views on bringing the HQ of Great British Railways to Crewe

Alsager Nub News reader, Tom Beamon, has pointed out the benefits of Crewe's bid to become the headquarters of the Great British Railways.

And he has likened the bonuses which it would bring, if successful, to those of the Salford and Greater Manchester area when the BBC moved to the North West.

He said: "Locating the headquarters of the new body overseeing rail strategy and contracts would bring welcome new professional and highly skilled employment to the area, together with training opportunities for others.

"As with the BBC in Salford and the effect on the broadcasting media, placing strategic rail staff in Crewe could, over time, alter the focus of the railway industry away from its current London and south-east centric view of the network.

"We might event get rail services which make sense for the local area but let's not get too excited. Crewe has to win the bidding first."

His comments come after Alsager Nub News told yesterday here

how Cheshire East Council's deputy leader, Councillor Craig Browne, said Crewe's bid made 'perfect sense'. Cllr Craig Browne told a meeting of the full council the government has finally launched the competition to find a location for the headquarters of the Great British Railways. Great British Railways (GBR), a planned state-owned public body, will oversee rail transport in Great Britain from 2023 and will replace Network Rail as the operator of rail infrastructure. It will control the contracting of train operations, the setting of fares and timetables and the collection of fare revenue in most of England.
