A new gin has been developed for Alsager's Manor House Hotel & Spa using the town's name from the Domesday Book.

The Winding River Distillery, run by husband and wife, Matthew and Suzanne Fox from their Sandbach home, has launched the Eleacier gin.

Eleacier was the name recorded for Alsager in the Domesday Book and the gin has been developed with this name bearing the town's coat of arms.

The crest features a chevron showing three wheat sheaves for Cheshire and is included on the label for the new gin.

Matthew said: "The crest is of the town's coat of arms and the name comes from the Domesday Book. We think it looks particularly classy.

"We're excited about this new gin and have a few events lined up where the gin will be officially launched."

The gin is on sale at the Manor House Hotel & Spa which opened a luxurious £1.7 million country spa garden in August.

The Winding River Distillery is named after the River Wheelock in Sandbach near where the couple live.

They set up the business after a holiday to Sorrento ignited their love for the Italian liqueur Limoncello.

They set about making it and then went on to other liqueurs before branching out into gin.

Our sister site, Sandbach Nub News, told how the couple set up the business following a holiday to Italy -  https://sandbach.nub.news/news/local-news/up-close-we-meet-the-sandbach-couple-whose-italian-holiday-was-the-turning-point-to-launch-their-own-gin-business-the-winding-river-distillery-147979

The couple have developed several gins for local places including the Old Hall in Sandbach, Sandbach United's Cross Bar, the Beer Emporium and the Military Arms.

The Alsager gin is the latest to add to the growing collection and Alsager Nub News can't wait to try it!
