Alsager Cricket Club to rename pavilion in memory of 'major figure' who drove club forward
By Tom Avery 5th Aug 2021
Alsager Cricket Club will have their pavilion renamed during a match tomorrow (Saturday, 31st July) in memory of a man who was a "major figure" at the club.
Andrew Edwards, of Joseph Edwards and Sons, and his wife Steph will be renaming the pavilion after his late father Joe Edwards.
Joe fulfilled many roles at the club during his years and helped "considerably" when the club moved to its present home on Fairview Avenue.
Joe died in 1987 at the age of 60, but it was only three years prior that he captained Alsager Cricket Club's second team to win the Cheshire League Championship.
He also captained the first team for many years and represented Cheshire, along with playing football for Stoke City too.
Joe also the built the club's pavilion extension and brought Stoke City to play cricket for the official opening.
The renaming of the pavilion will take place between the innings of the 1st XIs home match against Barlaston at around 3pm. Past and present players will be attending the event.
