An Alsager councillor and chair of Cheshire East wide Labour Party's Local Government Committee has called on residents to sign a petition in a bid to stop bus services being cut.

On Monday (February 27th) Arriva North West began consulting with employees on plans to close its Winsford and Macclesfield depots - affecting bus routes in and around the area.

Alsager town councillor Michael Unett, a councillor for East Ward, said "while none of the services directly run through Alsager, they would still impact residents".

"Local residents would still be affected as many connecting buses for journeys to Sandbach, Congleton and Macclesfield would be affected," he said on Social Media.

"A loss of bus services is unacceptable to the residents who rely on them."

He is urging residents to sign the "Stop Arrive from Cutting Our Buses" petition launched to protect services.

"Councillors and MPs were given no advance notice of these plans but have asked for an urgent meeting with Arriva to discuss alternatives and to try to find a way forward," said Cllr Unett.

"Please sign and share the petition below to show Arriva how many people rely on the bus routes that they operate."
