Dozens of families were due to attend Alsager Civic's New Year's eve party which is now off.

Alsager Civic has cancelled its popular New Year's Eve event due to the likelihood of new Government Covid restrictions.

The ever-popular family New Year's Eve party, including a buffet platter or picnic box for the kids, was due to take place on December 31st.

But the Civic announced today (Thursday) that due to concern over increasing local cases of Covid-19 and the likelihood of additional restrictions being implemented the event is now off.

A statement from Alsager Town Council reads: "The decision has been made with the safety of the local community and members of staff in mind, which is of paramount importance to the Town Council.

"We know that everyone attending this event will be very disappointed and the timing of the decision is to provide as much notice as possible to enable attendees to consider their New Year arrangements.

"A full refund will be provided to all bookings who will be contacted today (Thursday 23 December).

"The team at Alsager Civic would like to wish everyone a happy but safe Christmas and New Year and we are very much look forward to welcoming you all back with some exciting events being planned for 2022."
