Pear Hospitality started with Pecks Restaurant in Congleton several years ago. They now own others across the county, including The Wheatsheaf in Sandbach. The company is going from strength to strength and is looking to the future with excitement.

This week, Jake Pear, the MD answers our 10 questions.

1. Best bit of my job is….

This a tough first question, there are many answers to this one. The best bit about my job is probably that I work in a family business. My Dad is my business mentor and CEO of the family businesses, my brother is the finance director and my best friend from University is our operations director. With that type of dynamic, you really do get straight to business, and we work together very well. Late-night phone calls, blunt emails and tense debates drive our business forward!

2. Worst part of my job is…

We are very proud of what we do and completely invested both physically and emotionally. The worst part of my job is the disappointment that accompanies a bad complaint, thankfully they are very rare, but it really is enough to keep you up at night.

3. What is the most valuable lesson you've learnt in business?

Ask for a quote first!

4. What is your proudest achievement?

Simply because it was my first, it has to be the opening of The Wheatsheaf. We had a hectic eight weeks of initial refurbishment and opened to the public in December 2016, so we hit the ground running. We learnt a lot from our mistakes along the way, but seeing it finally open and moulding it into the venue that it is today, almost 7 years later, is priceless.

5. Where and what do you see yourself doing in 10 years' time?

We aim to acquire a venue every two years or less, so hopefully, Pear Hospitality will be a large operator in the North West with 8-10 exciting concepts in our portfolio.

6. What motivates you?

Some may see this as a fault, but I am motivated most by 'next year.

7. What was your first job?

Working on the production line during the summer holidays at one of our other family businesses, Reliance Medical. After negligently packing safety pins with incorrect quantities, it is safe to say that my brother wouldn't hire me today.

8. Describe yourself in three words?

Impatient, ambitious, daddy

9. Do you think your friends would describe you as that, or would they describe you as something else?

My wife started off with 'kind' and 'caring', and then she laughed. I think we will stick with mine!

10. Favourite Place in Cheshire?

Has to be Sandbach! It is difficult to find another town comparable to the charm, community and bustling high street of Sandbach.

Pear Hospitality has several prestigious restaurants and pubs across Cheshire.
