The Marylands Park development has taken one step closer to planning approval as the site plan has been recommended for approval ahead of the Strategic Planning Board meeting next week.

David Wilson Homes North West and Muller Property Group are behind plans for the development in Stapeley and had been deferred from January's planning meeting so concerns from members could be addressed.

Amongst those concerns were the site layout of the main public open space and the relocation of the play area alongside the addition of a secure allotment replacing a community orchard. The development will see 189 homes built on land near Peter Destapeleigh Way with business units and a local centre also built.

The planned development has been part of a controversial wider mixed-use scheme which was originally refused in 2012 and eventually approved in 2020 after a public enquiry and an appeal to the Secretary of State.

The report submitted ahead of the planning board which is due to meet next Wednesday (29 March) says "It is considered that the proposed amendments to the layout including the relocation of the NEAP (neighbourhood-equipped area of play), provision of allotments and improved relationship of car parking with neighbouring properties of Bishop Wood, addresses the reasons for the Deferral of the application by SPB on 25 January 2023."
