Alsager Round Table has cancelled the earmarked July date for this year's Alsager Carnival following the extension to lockdown restrictions.

The round table had previously announced that this year's carnival would take place on Saturday, 17th July.

However, the event taking place was subject to the full lifting of Covid-19 restrictions in the Government's roadmap being agreed as planned on June 21st.

But prime minister Boris Johnson announced yesterday (Monday, 14th June) that current coronavirus restrictions would remain in place for another four weeks, until 19th July, because of the rapid spread of the Delta variant.

Posting on their Facebook page, Alsager Round Table said: "Due to the government announcement yesterday it is with regret we have to cancel Alsager Carnival on 17th July.

"The carnival committee are discussing the possibility of holding the event later in the year.

"Thanks for your support, watch this space."
